An Ounce of Prevention

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

They say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," but I must admit that I usually wait until something goes wrong before I do anything about it! I do try to take care of my health by eating right, taking nutritional supplements, and I occasionally exercise! I try to rationalize the fact that I don't spend more time in the gym by telling myself that I get enough exercise trying to keep up with the kids.

If I would spend as much time keeping up on things with our vehicles and home repairs, I would be all set! I usually don't think about taking care of my car until I start hearing a strange new noise that doesn't sound good. I love to spend money on fun things, and unfortunately, I still haven't learned that if I spend a little money on maintenance, I might have more money for the fun things I want!

My husband and I own a construction/remodeling business, and we see many people who wait until there's a big problem before they call someone to help. We get a lot of work from customers who's homes have rot damage that could have been prevented if the homeowner would have used a gutter protection system.

Many people don't realize how important gutter protection is until they have a major problem. If you have stagnant water sitting in your gutters, not only will you be creating a home for mosquitoes, you will eventually rot out the fascia boards behind the gutters, and that can be a very costly repair.

It's just not worth trying to save a few dollars by putting off simple home maintenence projects. Spend a little time clearing debris and leaves from your gutter, and use a gutter protection system to ensure that water is able to flow through your downspout. If you're still not convinced about the importance of maintaining your gutters and you wait until it's too late...my husband would be happy to come out and give you an estimate on the damage!!
