A Sign of Things to Come

The old saying is still true, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." Several years ago when we were looking for a new home, we were so excited to read about an underground house for sale, which is what my husband always wanted, but it was over an hour away. The description sounded like exactly what we were looking for, so we decided to check it out even though it was a long drive. As we drove out to what seemed like the middle of nowhere (at least that's what my mom calls it), we couldn't wait to see the house. As we drove closer, the first thing I noticed was a rusty old mailbox with a worn out address, and I thought to myself, "Please don't let this be the house!"

Thankfully, the house turned out to be exactly what we were looking for, and we've lived here for almost nine years now. There are many little things that still need fixing, but one of the first things I did was get rid of that old mailbox, and now I want to put up a beautiful address plaque at the edge of our property. Our house is hidden by a hill, and it would be nice if the first thing people notice is a nice address plaque. There are so many beautiful lawn markers that we can choose from to help people find our house. It's also a safety feature for us because I had to call the fire department once, and I needed them to be able to find our house. I caught the yard on fire a couple of years ago when I was trying to burn the trash, and I had to describe our house because you couldn't see the address from the road.

Another great place to use address plaques is mounted on a wall or gate at the end of your driveway. You can put your name on the plaque, so people coming for the first time can easily tell that they're at the right place. It's so embarrassing to drive past the house your looking for because you can't remember the address, but if you can read their name, it's much easier to find. I've done that a few times, and as I'm driving by, they're waving out the door to let us know we've gone too far! I wish more people would use these plaques!
