Ray of Hope

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the mesothelial cells of the body. These are the cells that make up the outer lining for the body’s major organs, such as the heart, lungs and stomach. These linings are referred to as the mesothelium and this is how the cancer got its name. The diagnosis of cancer often leaves people with a feeling of hopelessness, and Mesothelioma is considered one of the more aggressive forms of cancer.

There is hope, and I found a book that will encourage you and show you how others are surviving and where to find doctors who can help you. Paul Kraus was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer in 1997, and is the author of the best selling mesothelioma book called "Surviving Mesothelioma". In his book, he offers practical advice on how he survived so that others will be encouraged to beat the odds.

Every individual is different, and mesothelioma prognosis varies according to many different factors. Be sure to find a doctor who is willing discuss all of your available options. This is your life, and you need to make sure that you have all of the available information possible. Don't be afraid to get as many opinions as necessary until you feel comfortable with a particular course of treatment.

Mesothelioma occurs about four times more frequently in men than in women. There are three different types of asbestos with "blue" being considered the most dangerous. Regardless of the cause of mesothelioma, there are treatment options available. Learn how others are surviving, and don't settle for the first treatment options that are given to you without considering all of your options. You need to be your own advocate, and do what's best for you once you have all the facts.

Available Now! Burned: House of Night Series

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Burned House of Night P.C. & Kristin Cast

Burned is the seventh book in the series continuing to explore the fictional House of Night vampire world as the characters struggle between good and evil. If you're not familiar with this adventure series, you can read the first chapter now and get a taste of what you've been missing. Burned follows the adventures of Zoey Redbird, a sixteen year old fledgling vampire. It takes four years to change from human to vampire, and fledglings must remain close to adult vampires, or they will die. For this reason, fledglings rarely leave the school. Some fledgling bodies cannot tolerate the change, and approximately one in ten fledglings will die even when they remain at the school.

Everyone can relate to the constant struggle to overcome the temptation to take the easy way out. Burned shows how Zoey prays for courage and deals with issues that teenagers face in real life. This book also demonstrates the fact that there are consequenses for our actions and how the things we do can effect other people. If we make the wrong choice, others may suffer. These books are written by a mother-daughter team and stress the values of acceptance and tolerance. They also hope to show teenagers that they can make mistakes and recover from them. The songs from this series are equally enchanting, and I'm listening to them as I write this article. You can download the Burned song free, and listen to it anytime! We all have the choice to do what's right or wrong. Do the best with what you know and hope for the best. That's all any of us can do!

Coincidence or Fate

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Murphy's Law certainly holds true for me when it comes to vehicles. I don't understand why my cars and trucks have to break down at the worst possible moments. My husband blames it on my mother, because the past few times she came to visit, our vehicles needed major repairs. Don't worry, mom. I know it's not your fault! If you need San Diego auto repair, visit repairpal.com to find a reliable auto shop in your area. You'll be able to read unbiased reviews from customers who are simply sharing their experiences, so you can decide which shop you trust to handle your repairs. Once you register with repairpal.com, you can leave your own reviews and share your experiences.

Most of us depend on our vehicles for our livelihood, so if your driving to work one day and the check engine light of your Ford F-150 suddenly lights up on your dash, you know this is not a good sign. Sometimes, it can be something as simple as the gas cap not being tightening on your gas tank, but other times it can be serious. In my case, it's usually serious! You don't need to worry about finding an honest, qualified auto shop when you can go online and compare shops in your area. By the way...If anyone knows where I can get a fully restored, convertible, classic Volkswagen Bug for next to nothing, keep me in mind!

The First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit May Be Yours

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Every year, we try to find all of the deductions that we qualify for, because we want to hold on to our hard-earned money! We work hard all year, and it seems like such a shame to hand over thousands of dollars that we've worked so hard to earn. I understand that many services in this country are funded by our tax dollars, I just want to make sure that I'm not "donating" more than necessary.

The first time home buyer tax credit allows homeowners to receive up to an $8,000 tax credit. This credit has also been extended to include homeowners who wish to "move on" after 5 years of living in their current property. If you're a homeowner who has lived in your current home consecutively for 5 of the past 8 years, you can receive up to a $6,500 tax credit. There are eligiblily requirements including income and purchase date. It's estimated that approximately 2 million people will utilize this tax credit, so find out if you're eligible to take advantage of this opportunity.

The qualifications are simple, and you will quickly be able to determine if you're elegible to receive this credit. Finally, a tax break that's simple to benefit from. We rented a home for years, and everyone kept telling us that as soon as we bought a home, we could deduct our mortgage interest. Well, that sounded like a great idea, but we never had enough to itemize, and we always took the standard deduction. So, once again, we weren't able to take advantage of a tax break. Most of us are living on a budget, and every penny counts, so I wanted to share this information with you in hopes that it could help save money on your taxes if you're buying a home for the first time, or you qualify as an exsisting homeowner.

If you're like me, it helps to hear someone explain it in simple terms, so I have included the following video which explains the details of this tax credit.

Protect Yourself by Protecting Your Computer

Monday, April 5, 2010

Finding the most effective network security software is essential if you have any personal information on your computer. I learned this the hard way when I purchased the cheapest virus protection program available from the department store. I figured they were all the same, and you're just paying more for the brand name. Well, I was wrong. I ended up with a virus that turned out to be a major project to remove from my computer. I couldn't get my computer to do anything. Fortunately, I have a friend who knows more about computers that I do who was able to tell me what I needed to do to remove the virus. I was worried that my personal information had been compromised, and that's one of the worst feelings you can have!

I'm not the most technically advanced person, so when I have questions about database security, I need to be able to call someone who knows what they're talking about. I wish I would have taken this into consideration before purchasing the cheaper software. Learning about network vulnerability makes you really stop and think about the importance of protecting your information. Finding a company that offers technical support can make a significant difference in the quality of protection you receive from your security software.
