All Toilets are not Created Equal

Monday, October 26, 2009

If you buy something you don't need just because it's labeled "environmentally friendly", are you really helping the environment? All products, including 'green' products, require energy to produce. Therefore, it's still necessary to buy in moderation. Even when you use environmentally friendly products, you can have too much of a good thing. Most people have good intentions when they purchase natural products, but what can we do on a daily basis to sustain our resources?

There's a way to reduce water consumption that you may not be aware of. Using a composting toilet can save 6,100 gallons of water every minute. When you hear this, you're either thinking, "Wow, that's a great idea", or "Eeewww, what's that!" Rest assured if you fall into the latter category. This is actually a safe, effective way to produce garden compost. These toilets are certified by the National Sanitation Foundation.

There are electric, non-electric, and alternating current composting toilets. You can purchase a system for moderate to heavy use, or a seasonal system for light to moderate use. The Seasonal system can contain a full season's worth of compost. You can also choose from waterless toilets as well as a 1-pint flush system. When using the 1-pint system, there is a one-inch drain hose that connects to the central composting system. These are ideal for vacation homes, camping, and can also be used in your home.

If you're serious about preserving our natural resources, please take the time to research composting toilets. It's a subject that some people may not want to think about, but when you look at the facts and realize how much water is used by the simple act of flushing a toilet, I hope you will consider using this composting system. For those of you who are concerned about the appearance of the toilet, never fear; they're attractive and will look elegant in any bathroom!

Fund Your Organization and 'Go Green' With SelectAFlush

Thankfully, many people are realizing the importance of conserving our natural resources. There is something you can do that will not only save water, but can also provide funding for school programs. Learn how something as simple as a dual flush toilet can save 49 gallons a day for a family of 7 by simply installing a water conservation devise in your existing toilet.

My children enjoy the after school program in our community, and we almost lost this opportunity due to a lack of school funding for anything that is not considered mandatory. The after school program has so many unique opportunities, and we were all sad to think that this program may end. If you talk to someone in your district about using the dual flush toilets, you can show them how you can raise money for programs such as Scouts, charities, sports programs, and other school programs.

This is a great opportunity to 'go green' and raise money for a worthy cause all at the same time! So often, we would like to make a difference, but many changes require a lot of money which most of us don't have. With this opportunity, you don't have to replace any existing equipment, and it doesn't require a lot of time or money. You can purchase a dual flush kit for $29.95. Finally, a realistic way for people everywhere to make a difference!
